Lick
Fork Remembers Sister
Gerri Buchanan
Sister Gerri Buchanan passed from this life, unto
eternal life with Jesus, on Wednesday July 1, 2009. She had been a faithful
member of Lickfork Free Will Baptist Church since September 1, 1991. She was
preceded in death by her parents, Clint Fleming and Ethel Sykes Fleming; her
sisters, Mary Dean Lambert and Patsy Cox. Survivors include her husband of
over sixty years, Homer D. Buchanan and children Rhonda Franclik and Jeffrey
Buchanan. She is also survived by one sister, Anna White and brothers; John
B. Fleming and Paul Fleming. Other surviving members of her family include;
six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Gerri spent much of her life as an educator
within the public school system, and worked many years in Northern Virginia.
Upon retiring, she and her husband returned to Dickenson County where she
became an involved member of our community and our church. Although retired,
Gerri continued her role as teacher by the example she set for many of us.
She often took an interest in those who were overlooked by others. She
concerned herself with the wellbeing of children in and around our church
community, always giving generously to whatever the cause maybe. She was a
wonderful cook, often among the first to bring a delicious dish to share at
a gathering or church dinner. Gerri may be remembered most for being a
strong prayer warrior. She never faltered in requesting prayer for family
members and friends that were in need, and she never hesitated to share a
praise report when those prayers were answered!
Though our sister is no longer with us, and a
large and painful void has been left in her absence, we who know Christ,
look forward to that great reunion day when we will see Gerri again! Here in
our current walk, may we each be reminded of Gerri’s shining example of
God’s love at work in the heart of others and strive to purpose ourselves
for Christ’s service, as did our sister.
